Natalie and Jessie at the bar...
Our new friend, Pierre...
Tuesday, March 31st
Tonight we decided to take Jessie out to a bar, since she was really excited that it's legal here once you're 16 years old. We ended up in the bar where Maria and I have gone Salsa dancing...
After sitting down, Maria, Jessie, and our friend, Candice went up to the bar to get drinks. While they were gone, a French guy came over and sat down across from me. He started asking where I was from, then we talked about how he'd studied in the US for a year and had visited a few places. His friends were sitting at a table nearby and one of them threw a coin at us...I'm not sure why. Then the other girls came back and we all chatted with the French guy, who's named Pierre. He asked us if we liked listening to music and when we said yes, he asked if we'd heard of "Chicago." We were really surprised to discover he was talking about Chicago, the Musical. He informed us that he had performed in his high school's production. He then proceeded to sing some of pretty much all the songs, ending with most of the song, "Mr. Cellophane"--complete with dance moves. And all of these songs were in English, but with a strong French accent. I thought we were going to die laughing. He wasn't a bad singer, it was just so funny to be sitting in a French bar watching a French guy perform "Mr. Cellophane"!!
His friend came over and we talked with the two of them for a while--they are both students here in Angers and they told us that they are the biggest drinkers in Angers. Apparently that was supposed to impress us? It was a great evening--lots of laughs.
